Hidden Dangers of BPA

There is a good reason why more and more people are abandoning plastic water bottles for the very popular BPA Free stainless steel water bottles. Check out our fun selection!

Bisphenol A, better known as BPA, is a controversial organic compound primarily used in the manufacture of plastics. BPA is a key ingredient in the production of polycarbonate plastic and epoxy resins. Polycarbonate plastic is very common, and most people are very familiar with it. It's that clear plastic that is hard and pretty much shatter-proof.

Polycarbonate plastic is used to make a variety of every day products including water bottles, sports equipment, medical and dental devices, and baby bottles. Even household electronics, commercial sealants, eyeglass lenses, CDs and DVDs all contain this type of plastic. Stainless steel does not contain BPA. Epoxy resins containing BPA are used as coatings on the inside of almost all food and beverage cans. BPA can leach out from the container into something you ingest. These toxic dangers are all around us!

It is common knowledge that BPA is potentially harmful to human health and the environment, but the long term effects are still not proven. In mice, low levels of BPA are known to stimulate prostate cancer cells and cause breast tissue changes that resemble early stages of breast cancer in both mice and humans. Other adverse side effects are changes in hormones, increased aggressiveness and impaired learning.

To safeguard your family from additional exposure to BPA, avoid using plastic bottled water as much as possible. If you own a stainless steel BPA Free water bottle, you can fill up with water before you leave home, and stay clear of this toxic chemical. Tap water in the United States is generally more safe than bottled water anyway. Bottled water is less regulated than city or town water, and it is much costlier than water from home. As an added benefit, if you stay away from bottled water, you won't be adding to the huge landfill problem of discarded containers. Protect yourself and your family from this known toxic chemical! Drink from a BPA Free stainless steel water bottle!
